Swim with orca & mobula rays – Baja Blue Water Expedition 2026
Aerial Support Assisted Trips!
We’re thrilled to announce a game-changing enhancement to our Mobula Ray Swim Trips: Spotter Plane Assisted Intelligence! This cutting-edge technology will revolutionize our excursions, allowing us to optimize our time on the water and track down the most thrilling wildlife action in the region.
With a maximum of just 5 clients per tour, our trips offer an intimate and unforgettable experience with the incredible Sea of Cortez wildlife. Your journey begins when you arrive at SJD Cabo in the afternoon, setting the stage for an extraordinary adventure in Baja, Mexico.
La Ventana, located in the Sea of Cortez is home to resident mobula rays, and the peak season for their spectacular gatherings is from May to July. During this time, our previous expeditions have treated guests to awe-inspiring sightings of blue whales, whale sharks, massive dolphin pods, sperm whales, orcas, and humpback whales. In fact, our tour is often considered the ultimate blue water expedition anywhere in the world!
We’ve teamed up with the area’s most experienced local captains in La Ventana to ensure you have the best possible adventure. In May, June & July, you’ll have the unique opportunity to witness massive schools of aggregating mobula rays, orcas, blue whales, fin whales, sperm whales, humpback whales, sea lions, large dolphin pods, manta rays, and more!
While we spot orcas approximately 15-20 times per month during May and June, it’s important to note that sightings may not be consecutive for every tour. Rest assured, we’ve taken every measure to maximize our chances of encountering these magnificent creatures – after all, we’re just as eager to see them as you are! The footage you can capture from our boat of these incredible animals will leave you in awe. Be sure to check out our video from the 2023 season for a sneak peek!
When you join us on this trip, we encourage you to come with an open mind and without specific expectations. The ocean has a way of revealing its gifts in its own time and manner. By placing yourself in the right place at the perfect time, you’ll greatly increase your chances of witnessing the breathtaking sights we’ve described above.
Expectations:
Certain tours may not encounter orcas. For a 95% chance of sighting, we recommend booking two consecutive tours. In 2024, 80% of our tours successfully sighted orcas, with only 2 out of 10 tours not seeing them. Typically, orcas are sighted once per tour, though some tours are fortunate to witness them multiple times. For instance, in 2024, one tour observed orcas three times, while another saw them five times. As these are wild animals, sightings cannot be guaranteed, but we make every effort to locate them, we want to see them just as much as you!

What you can expect
Arrive into SJD, and be whisked away to the most magical place on earth!
Your home for the week is a picturesque, private luxury beachfront house with spectacular views and all the comforts of home — air-conditioning, WiFi, American satellite TV, patios with lounge chairs to unwind while taking in the ocean breeze, and so much more.
The gorgeous Sea of Cortez is only a few steps across a white-sand beach from your door. And best of all, it’s located on the edge of a small fishing town, far away from the hordes of tourists, creating a unique experience to really enjoy the natural beauty of Baja. Once everyone is settled in we’ll meet for our first presentations then indulge in our first chef-prepared dinner of the trip.
The next morning, gear up and get ready for 8 hours at sea. We never know what we will see, but our main focus is in-water orca encounters and large schools of mobula rays!
While out on the ocean we’ll also be looking for sea lions, giant devil rays, whales, mantas, pods of dolphins, and many more incredible animals that call these waters home. Our days will be full as we search for different schools and discover this incredible natural spectacle. Our captains for this trip are local ex-fisherman who have transitioned to working purely in marine research and eco-tourism. This is living proof of the amazing things eco-tourism can accomplish. They have developed an unrivaled passion for the ocean and know the waters around this area intimately.
The nearest airport is Los Cabos International Airport (airport code SJD). Los Cabos International is also known as San Jose del Cabo International Airport by some airlines.
